Watch the spanish news if you live in USA and have basic cable, you can also watch the spanish novelas, a little exagerated at times but they can be really steamy and **** at times. Go to your local library and check out some spanish books, Im sure they have a spanish section like where I live. Just make sure its consistent and you do something that involves listening, speaking, or reading spanish every day.

No one is going to be forced to learn any other language. Knowing other languages is a good idea especially when a person goes to college. I speak two languages and my husband speaks four fluently and no one can accuse him of being ignorant.

Maybe because they deal with companies out of the country. Perhaps! Its pretty sad you say they steal jobs. You think they are dirt and have no education yet they steal your job. Come on. Doesnt say much for yourself, does it?????

Since I don’t speak Spanish, I can’t say anything about our ability to be understood, I can say however that I understand only about one out of every 10 “so called English speaking” Latinos. Also, If you speak to someone from Spain, they will give you anything BUT a glowing review of what they think the Western Latios speak! You should hear what Mexicans say about the Porto Ricans in-ability to speak Spanish!
As for other languages, I am not totally fluent in any, but when I was stationed in Germany, I learned enough to more than just “get around”… In Cambodia and Viet Nam I learned enough of at least a DOZEN dialects to make myself understood! I have seen Latios in the U.S who were a BORN here and couldn’t make themselves understood in English.

You need to get out and meet more people.

First, I’d recommend talking to your teacher.
What I did with French was to listen to French audio on movies. First, I put on subtitles, though. That helped me understand how sentences are formed. You get out a dictionary, and eventually it all makes sense.
Spanish subtitles are easier to come by, too.
Also, when you’ve got sentence constructions down, you can talk to yourself in Spanish. You may start thinking in Spanish.
I consider myself fluent in French even though I’ve never had a dream in French. I can think in French. Don’t automatically assume that because you’re not dreaming in Spanish, you’re not fluent.
But, to answer your question, you might want to start by talking to a Spanish teacher if you can find one. Talking to yourself in Spanish is always a good idea, too.
People who speak the Spanish language are around you. You’ll find them. You don’t need to go to California or Spain to find them.
