Is it rude to speak spanish to employees?

Court asked:

I’m going to an all inclusive resort in Mexico this weekend. I am pretty good at Spanish. I was just wondering if it was rude to speak Spanish to the employees. I know I’m in Mexico but most people speak to them in English. Just wondering.

Unlike in the USA where the home language is English. in this case, no, it is not.

your in there country you should be speaking it, just like if they came here they should speak english, but they dont. So speak english if you want lets see how they like it (or if they even know it)

Its their language so they shouldnt mind in their own country anyway.

  • Learn Spanish Flashcards

It’s not rude at all, even if your Spanish is a little broken. It’s been my experience when visiting other countries that people appreciate it when I speak (or attempt to) in the country’s native language. They’re usually very helpful and polite about helping you to enunciate correctly, or teach you new phrases/words. I say go for it!

    Hi, I live in Mexico.
    Hope you enjoy our country.
It’s not rude if you talk to us in Spanish, we will appreciate it.
But you sometimes might not know how to say a word, so you can use English too.

Something else, few people in this country speak English fluently, so they will understand you better if you speak with them in Spanish.

I don’t know where are you traveling, at the beaches there are more English speakers, (like Cancun or los cabos) but in small towns you will hardly find a bunch or any. So speaking Spanish will also help you visit places that normal tourist won’t get to see. Visit a small town, they are amazing and magic!

    Que disfrutes tu viaje!

  • Learn The Spanish Language

In all the countries I’ve been people have always appreciated if I tried to speak to them in their language – and if it was only a greeting phrase or a “thank you”. No one will be offended if you address them in their language.
I think it shows you respecting their country, their language, their culture – and that’s certainly appreciated everywhere.
