I totally agree!!! I think that there should be a law that states if you are going to live in a country you must speak the langauge!

I guess it does kind of bug me. Now, the United States doesn’t have an OFFICIAL language, but the NATIONAL language is English. I think it’s fine if someone isn’t all that fantastic at English, that can be expected if you’re an immigrant and you are a native speaker of another language. But what bugs me is if people move to the U.S. and make no effort to learn or assimilate. America is a place of so many nationalities, so it’s fine if people are speaking Spanish, Russian, Japanese, whatever. But I, personally, do not plan to assimilate to another culture. I’m American, and I don’t think so many things need to be changed to cater to a person from another country who isn’t even trying.

Ummm. America is NOT an English speaking country. (Well, not exclusively – we are gracious enough to accept that other people have a right to retain their cultures)

Get a grip on life…accept that there are people out there wo aren’t as perfect as you are. Well…then again “english”…”spanish”…wait! even YOU don’t really know English…

It takes an average of about 7 years to learn a new language.

You have a problem, what u called “America” is really USA, a country. America in fact is a continent which has more o less 35 countries. Almost 20 of them speak spanish, so the question would be why don’t u speak spanish.

Learning a language is hard. You would probably find it hard to communicate in the native language if you went to a foreign country, since you didn’t grow up there. Even if people are TRYING to learn English, it could be hard for them to use it in business situations like banking. These companies are just trying to expand their businesses by appealing to more people, whether it’s immigrants in the US or people living in foreign countries. In NYC, especially in areas with a lot of tourists, you’ll see signs that are in eight or ten languages!

And yes, even though I know there’s a good reason for it, it does bug me occasionally when I feel that it isn’t necessary.

If you were in their shoes you wouldn’t learn english either. you woudn’t have to becuase Americans translate everything for them anyway!

Before you begin to complain with your ignorant comments, perhaps you should first learn English yourself. Given the years you’ve spent with it and how you’re still utter crap at it, you should be able to easily emphasize with others as they struggle with the language. You didn’t write even a single sentence with correct grammar in it!

America doesn’t have an official language. Why don’t you learn Spanish in order to communicate with your fellow Americans?
