Whats the best way to learn how to speak spanish?

I am not in a rush but I would like to learn to speak spanish over the next 2 years. I am an 18 year old in my first year of college…I took 3 semesters of spanish in high school but still I can only read and write somewhat no speaking. How should I learn how to do it. I was thinking that studying abroad would be by far the best way to help. If so will one semester be enough? Do I have to do a whole year? Its just that I am on a 3 year plan to graduate so there are a few classes I have to take at a certain time…thx for the advice

pbs has shows geared to learning conversational spanish watch or tape them if you are not home when they are on
how long it takes you is up to your ability and determination to learn the language

you can get good information in the Cervantes Institute if you have some near your place. If not, enter in their website for information. it would be good for you to learn spanish with native teachers, bcoz on the contrary u’ll get some ways to pronounce that wont be “properly” spanish.
Also, you can get some spanish speaker friends, that way you can practice with them
After you graduate, you can come to any of the countries that have spanish as language and get it better.

look out for spanish students on your black board or in the local press, or at local institutes where spanish-speaking students study english. make a tandem with them, they want to learn english, you spanish. doing that you will learn spanish with a lot of fun. i did it
